SUBMISSION CRITERIA: A New Landscape

A photograph can describe the now-ness of a space and the people who have left a trace--whether fleeting or longstanding. Landscapes have long been awed abstract symbols of human emotion--but the emergence of a New Topographic juxtaposed natural and man-made forms in the 1970s. How have sociocultural, political, and physical landscapes transformed since the advent of the Internet and social networks; pervasive threats of terrorism and global warming; the elections of Presidents Bush and Obama; the cult-like idolization of Jersey Shore and the Twilight series or the iconography of Lady GaGa? How can photography represent the social atmosphere of today and the physicality of inhabited space to coalesce in a new vision of the landscape tradition?
